Weldless Steel Tube Co 1901 - established in Neachell’s Lane 1911 - extending into Merrils Hall Lane. circa 1914 - took over the premises of British Coalite "nearby" 1960's - continuous tube-rolling mill, built Railway station on the west side of Neachells Lane: Wolverhampton and Walsall Railway, operated by London & North Western Railway (LNWR) and the Midland Railway (MR): In 1875 the LNWR bought the W&W, but a year later sold it to the MR Opened 1872, closed to passengers 1931, The line was closed as a through route on 28 September 1964. The line was broken at the site of Bentley station to facilitate the construction of the M6 motorway. Closed 1965-1970, when reopened to serve Weldless Steel Tube Co. The works was to the west of the station on the north side of the line. Closed completely 1983. Canal - Bentley Canal ran between Wyrley and Essington Canal and the Anson Branch of the Walsall Canal. The Weldless Steel Tube Works were located on the north bank, and a gas furnace plant was to the south. At Neachells Junction Bridge there was a small branch heading South to Neachell Hall colliery. Canal opened 1843, and closed in the 1960s. |
