An interesting photograph. If the date is correct (1930) then this shows the already lifted section of the Taff Vale Railway's Llantrisant Branch between Llantrisant Junction on the TVR main line (seen running past the power station, bottom, and Tonteg Halt (out of sight below the photograph). The GWR, which had absorbed these lines in 1922 closed this short section on 10th July 1930, making a new connection with the original Barry railway line which can be glimpsed on the extreme left at the bottom where the road passes under the closed line. Also in the photo are two other railway lines. The Cardiff Railway can be traced behind the seven white houses above the power station, and higher up in the break between the tree line on the hill side the Pontypridd Caerphilly and Newport line runs. There were halts at Upper Boat on both of these lines. |
