A railway line emerged from this gate way to join the tram lines so as a Fairfield's locomotive with a couple or so wagons could gain access to the goods yard further along the road. At first steam powered and then electric. The latter used the tramway overheads and later the trolley bus system with a couple of trolley poles fitted.
