This is not a steam lifeboat, but is in fact the Royal National Lifeboat Institution's - 60' - 'Emma Constance', ON. 693, lifeboat, which was sent to Aberdeen in 1926 shortly after the RNLI took over the running of the Lifeboat service in Aberdeen from the Harbour Commissioners'. She was the first powered lifeboat to serve at Aberdeen, and was in fact one of the first twin engined, twin screw lifeboats designed and built by the RNLI. She was powered by 2 x 80bhp Weyburn 6-cyl petrol engines. She was in service at Aberdeen from 1926 until replaced by a new lifeboat in 1951, and was involved in many Medal Services. |
