The Princess Elizabeth Hospital for Children was founded in 1934 to care for sick children from London. Construction suffered setbacks due to a fire and the outbreak of war and the hospital was not officially opened until 1948. In 1973 the hospital became a satellite of the Manor Hospital in Epsom and was used as a hospital for mentally handicapped patients. It closed in 1998 and has now been converted to luxury apartments. |
