My Father (born 1923) used to talk about The Great Yorkshire Show being set up on Bruntons 100 acre field which was off Marton Road. This ties in with this photograph which shows Marton Road in the foreground and the rail line in the (top) centre. The line of the hedge /trees above the rail line at the left hand side is still clearly visible on Google Earth. This set up covers the area that to the right (South) was Middlesbrough College Marton Campus - now being redeveloped into housing and to the left (North) is now the James Cook hospital, the line of the field would come out on Marton Road close to the helicopter landing pad / main road entrance. |
