chatham avenue (previously chatham gardens) now extant since circa 1976/77 ran from the nile immeadiately across front of entrance in picture to murray grove just off photo top left.buildings seen at left bleyton building and right langley building also facing from other side of nile street exactly same tall buildings of left rear aspect of sworder building and rear aspect of palmer buildings. also chatham avenue lost half its lenghth from around midway to murray grove due to ww2 bomb destruction.

519 Hackney Road were long the premises of H E Merrett Undertaker. The name of H E Merrett remained long after the business was taken over by a chain of funeral directors. The premises are now occupied by a sandwich bar.
