519 Hackney Road were long the premises of H E Merrett Undertaker. The name of H E Merrett remained long after the business was taken over by a chain of funeral directors. The premises are now occupied by a sandwich bar.

Hello Graham.. My dad was brought up in Hoxton during the 1920's and 30's and Ive heard him mention Daddy Burts whilst telling us his stories of how it was in the old days :} Anyway, he lived in a place called Georges Square which was a slum even back then. It was demolished in the 1960's I believe. Would you know whereabouts on this photo Georges Square would be and 'pin' it for me ? It would be good to point it out to him ..Thank you Lynne
