now found repro card, called Royal Forest Hotel then (for Ascot trade?) clock and bell had gone in 1957 but Albert sold copper Fox weathervane for £5 (after other Pete had shinned up tower in bare feet!) after he said he would give away if asked (unlikely!), we carefully stripped lead, tiles, timber, cleaned 1,000's of bricks (£5 a 1,000 in 1957!) At that time if you wanted extra workers you went down the Labour Exchange, we got a load of Teddy Boys, drapes and all! Harold Bowyer (Winkfield Row) old farmer, took all our old baths etc. We'd got down to 1st floor, there was a big glass lantern light over what had been dining room, we got these Teddy Boys to drop it on back of Harold's 1926 Morris lorry, (open cab, he had big black dog and like all farmers wore old brown stockman's coat done up with binder twine!) it just fitted (about 12'x6') Later we asked him how he got it off back at his (famous) yard "Arr " he said " I got a rope, tied one end to the glass lantern light and the other to a tree - and drove off!"

Fox Hotel ?originally built c 1901 at the end of coaching era, never successful, AE Hill pulled it down for Bracknell Development Corp in 1957, AE Hill (Albert) was my uncle, bro Pete worked for him, so did I as a kid in school hols etc, surely that as the Black Horse PH across road? it was our "Office"
