This wing of the building was destroyed by fire in 1966. At the time both the MoSS (later DHSS)and the Inland Revenue shared the building. The fire started in the day and lasted into the night - people were cheering in the street chanting 'the tax office is burning'. All great fun for those coming out of the local pubs!

This part of the building was used as the DHSS office in Coventry until a new building was opened in the 1990s. When the other wing of the factory burned down the staff were still working here until the fire brigade ordered them out!
