Footbridge over Birstall branch.Photo shows a cut off white post remnant attached to the stone parapet. This used to carry a red diamond shaped sign with the wording "Warning-this bridge is insufficient to carry the weight of more than a heavy motor car and trailer" or words to that effect. There is a similar sign at the National Railway Museum.I believe it was only used for pedestrians and not vehicles. The area below the bridge is where I used to play as a young boy in the late 1960's and early 1970's on the former trackbed which had become a dumping ground for rubbish.

Mill dams for cooling water for engines or for use in dyeing process. The remains of these dams were still there in the late 1960's and we made race tracks in them to ride our bikes round and round.Great Fun!
