Watford Heath Mobile Library: [Scammel Scarab]. Would take months of continuous badgering to order a specific book. This Scarab would be seen once a week in the 1960s and 70s parked-up near the Royal Oak pub on Watford Heath - First of Two pictures of this era. Appears to show the power-cable being hooked-up to the sub-cabinet. |

The Shop on Watford Heath in 1964. Slightly before my time. Several postcards exist of the shop as Rose Cottage Tea Gardens. Reputed to sell groceries, ice-cream and teas. The shop must have closed sometime in the mid to late 60s, We would play football in the summer on the Heath 1969-72. Nearest shops at the time - Sheila's pantry: Junction Villier's Rd/ Pinner Road; Barden's News/Con/Tob in Villier's Rd. Ice-cream on the Heath? Definitely gone by my time, if open for business we'd have have used it! |

My great-grandparents lived in this house in 1911. The building had been a shop previously and was simpler in design and used to be no.24 before the Heath was renumbered and it became no. 34. The Tudorbethan woodwork and ornamentation was added around 1913 when it was turned into the Tea Gardens. By an interesting coincidence, my grandparents were called Nelson and Millie (Mildred), although they passed away long before 1964. |
