Lovely to see my old stamping-ground, Pearl Assurance HQ standing proud in High Holborn, although only high the size it later became. Just alongside is the Holborn Empire, later bombed by the Germans in 1941 - like most of London was really. Sad we don't have an effective old-time music hall within London that echoes all the former sights, sounds and bawdy humour of the past. Too much downright rudeness nowadays. |
