the hylton and wearmouth line which joined the leamside line at southwick junction and ran to wearmouth colliery the A1231 now follows this route. |

The colliery was on the north bank of the Wear, a couple of miles west of central Sunderland. It closed in 1979. The site is now a business park. |

started work here at 16 yrs.closed in 1979,is now a retail and business enterprize park |
