Not quite the Manchester Ship Canal, this is the River Irwell at the bottom of the photo. The Manchester Ship Canal officially starts at the Woden Street footbridge which is further to the right (off the photo). The two barges are entering the link to the old Hulme Locks which joined the Irwell to the Bridgewater Canal, Hulme Number 3 lock can just be made out on the N side of the railway viaduct as can the cottage that was in the island between the main line and the Hulme Branch of the Bridgewater.( now a huge block of up-market flats!!) |

Looks to me like the Bridgewater Canal at the top of picture with Hulme Locks leading down to the Manchester Ship Canal/River Irwell at bottom of picture |

This is not the Manchester Ship Canal it is either the Bridgewater Canal or the river Irwell (Mersey & Irwell Navigation). The Manchester Ship Canal ends at Woden Street Footbridge. |
