I think this would be crossgate, the old park avenue.

The old school. It closed after the opening of the new school in Northenden at the very start of the 20th century and by the time this photograph was taken, it had become a tea room for walkers and cyclists. Later the Sharston Hotel was built on the site, which is now subsumed under the M56 motorway.

The picture shows the untouched countryside before a housing estate was developed which nowadays sits in a mostly urbanised area south of Manchester.

This is an image of how the Benchill area appears today.
