It was some years before the masons got hold of it. I do no not believe that they acquired it until 1954. It was known formerly as the Palaestra, a private sports and social club intended for local residents of the Northwick Estate. The intention by Capt Edward G Spencer-Churchill (the former landowner) was that the Northwick Estate should be a deal more exclusive than it eventually came to be. |
