In 1926, this land was still fields that comprised "The Oaks" estate in Upton-by-Chester. In 1933, it along with another adjacent estate named "Upton Lawn" were bought at auction for £4,500. Original bridge over the Chester-Liverpool Railway, was a narrow right-handed dog leg. It was superseded in the early 1960s by the current Liverpool Road bridge which carries two lanes in both direction.
