This is the bowling green attached to Tonge Club. Beyond it are allotments and then one of Cookies Farm fields. Eventually The Moorclose School was built on the field.

Jim Fielding lived in this house. He had a butchers shop on Oldham Road. The address of the house is Kenyon Lane.

This is Top Tonge Playing Field. during the 1950's it became a tip, along the edge overlooking Evan Street. St Michaels & All Angels Cricket team played there. Access was up William Street, (Billy Brew), turning right at the entrance to Cookie's farm. Tonge Hall was next to Cookies farm, and Schofield Walk started at the side of Tonge Hall and went way down past Cookie's pond and into Saxon Street. Albert Wolstencroft (Alderman) was resident in Tonge Hall in the early 50's He was a partner in Wolstencroft and Hall the Greengrocers.

This is Bottom Tonge Playing field. I think the site of a very old clay works. Later the sides were terraced for spectators to view football matches.

At the time of this photograph this was St Micheal's parochial hall on the corner of James Andrew St & Oldham Rd , (youth club and 2nd Middleton scouts met here) . It had been converted from the OLD Holy Innocents' mission church in 1921 (the old church was built as a second hand iron church built in 1888) , ( from Mid Guardian articles and a former scout) . The Holy Innocents church pinned on Kenyon Lane had only just been built , in 1925 .

This is William Street, locally lovingly known as Billy Brew. Lead up to Cookies farm. There was also a path from the side of Tonge Hall called Schofield Walk. This lead down to Saxon Street and Grimshaw Lane. I was born and bread in Middleton and a pupil of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar 1948 - 52

One of Middleton's forgotten streets - a great uncle of mine grew up there and as an apprentice, made a cannon, somebody bet him that it wouldn't fire, so he took up the challenge, lit it and it exploded big style. Unfortunately, it blew up the communal lavatories as well. He became a Mill Engineer with 40 patents to his name.
