![]() A new Class 50 diesel locomotive and Stanier Black 5MT 44806 at Lostock Hall July 1968. We are now in the final weeks of main line steam on British Railways. Photographs of the Class 50s and steam locomotives together are very rare! |

I remember visiting Lostock Hall in July 1968 just before the withdrawal of all steam locomotives from British Railways. Lostock Hall shed numbered 10D was one of three sheds open at the end, the others being Rose Grove 10F and Carnforth 10A. This photo shows Lostock Hall shed to good effect. It was magical being there with lots of locos on shed and lots of movements on and off shed. There were also steam hauled trains passing by and shunting. This photo certainly brings back my memories of a special time. |
