This was the Higher Grade School between 1896 and 1944, when it was renamed Stockton Secondary Grammar School. In 1951, the pupils and staff transferred to the new Grangefield Grammar School on Oxbridge Avenue and this building then became part of the Stockton and Billingham Technical College.
