As built, Epsom Downs Station had 9 platform faces, most of which were only use during race days as the nearby Epsom racecourse. With the decline of race traffic the extra capacity was no longer required as Tattenham Corner Station which had similar facilitates was close to the course. All but one island platform were eventually taken out of use and the track lifted. In 1989 the station was re-sited 300 yards to the north east to make way for a new housing estate. The new station was provided with a single platform. The old station and the line to the north east roughly follows the line of Bunbury Way. |
