This vessel isn't HMS Walpole. HMS Walpole did carry the number D41, but she was commissioned in 1918 and after serving for almost all of WW2, was damaged by a mine in January 1945 and scrapped in February 1945. It is more likely to be HMS Myngs, an M class destroyer, launched in September 1914 and sold for scrap in May 1921. HMS Myngs was numbered D41 from September 1918. See https://www.naval-history.net/WW1NavyBritishShips-Dittmar6PendantNos.htm for First World War RN ships to carry D41, and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Admiralty_M-class_destroyer |

The remains of the Rainham cement plant are visible to the left. These consist of two wrecked blocks of chamber kilns and various buildings. The plant was established in 1881 and acquired by APCM in 1900, after which it was fairly promptly closed. |
