The Railway Arms pub. Formed of two cottages combined, it opened as a pub in 1866. After the nearby railway and station closed, it became the Batchworth Arms.
It was closed and demolished in 1994 and replaced by a small office block that seems to have spent most of its time empty. |

Station opened 1862, closed to passengers 1952, and to goods in 1967. Demolished in the 1970s and built on. See http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/r/rickmansworth_church_street/index.shtml for the history of the station and its line, photos of it in use and after closure. Much of the track bed now forms the 'Ebury Way' for walkers and cyclists. |

This is Rickmondsworth. The town is mid top left, and the London and North Western Railway station mid top centre. The line ran from here to Watford junction. The lake is now part of Rickmondsworth aquadrome. |

Batchworth lock on the Grand Union is centre, foreground is Walkers Woodyard and boat builders as already mentioned. Left of that is 'Rickmansworth Aquadrome'. The 'Bury' is extreme left, Harefield Road extreme right of photo. Croxley Moors and the 'Withy Beds' (now a walk) in the top distance. The 'island' in front of the lock was a paint factory when I was a child and had a big fire around 1960? I was born at Batchworth Lock in the cottages below the Lock Keepers Cottage. |
