The former site of Hereford Castle Keep. (it was NOT on the castle green as many people mistakenly think) - Much later (Circa 1960's) was renamed Redcliffe Gardens, the shortlived home to a bandstand and concrete stream feature - but even that's gone now, oh well. |

The Cathedral College of Art: Being Of a Regency vintage, it is thankfully still there, but has lost part of its "palladian style" construction, the right hand canopy and columns having sadly long gone. - I myself attended this college in the early 1970's - Great times, we used to go canoeing from a jetty below the cliffe. |

Castle Cliffe: 700 years of local history here, starting out in life it was the medieval watergate for Hereford Castle, undergoing many reincarnations it was later known as (amongst others)The dwelling house, The Governor’s Lodge and Bridewell.
Today it has been sympathetically restored and converted to a self catering holiday property. |

The "Russian Gun" this was, I have read, a Crimean trophy cannon - Ironically this and other cannons were lost to the need for scrap metal during the 2nd world war - two (trophy)cannons did survive the Wars appetite for Iron, those being "Roaring Meg" (a huge caliber siege gun) and the "Sevastopol gun" |

1921: Hereford Racecourse, In 1921 the horse races would have crossed Holmer Road (twice)on a looped circuit around the east side (behind what is now Dunhelm, Halfords, Comet, B&M area) - as traffic issues grew it was later entirely re-positioned approximately 250 yards further to the west.(almost out to Westfields) this action freeing up East Holmer Road for future development. |
