A 'radial', probably an E6, drawing empty stock out of the Up carriage sidings.

This train is coming off the slow line from Cheam which ended just before the station at Sutton. The section from and including Cheam station, was four tracks which allowed fast trains to overtake stopping trains ... A practice that continued well into the 1960s.

Maurice -

The train is in one of the two carriage sidings. The Up Slow is two tracks over, its trailing connection clearly visible.

The Slow lines between Sutton and Cheam were taken out of use on 13th March 1955, leaving just the loops at Cheam, which remained in use until June 1976 (Up) and June 1977 (Down).
