| The Foundry Lane works of EG Wrigley and Co. a major supplier of components to the motor industry in the early years of the 20th century. In 1913 the company briefly produced a cyclecar but they were taken over by Morris who built Morris Commercial cars on this site from 1924. |

The Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Works was established in 1854. Output was quite diverse. Besides carriages and wagons, I understand that in World War I Handley Page bombers were built here. In World War II the company built tanks such as the Cromwell and Hamilcar gliders for the military. Rolling stock for London Underground featured as did two clases of diesel locomotive - some of which have been preserved - for British Railways. Rolling stock was also exported overseas - for example to Iraq, Egypt, India, Malaya and South Africa. The works closed in 1963 |
