Hoffman kiln. This one is possibly slightly more comfortable to work than the LBC Hoffman (see EPR000583) as it has a roof to protect the kiln burners. A hoffman kiln consists of a series of chambers that are firstly set with bricks then, by means of dampers, the fire is drawn through the newly set chamber to fire the bricks and cool them down prior to drawing and re-filling with more green (un-fired) bricks. This hoffman probably has 14 chambers. Some of the larger kilns can have 4 or 5 times as many and even extend to having two firing zones going round at once.

Beehive kiln (as is the one to the right). These are intermittent kilns where the kiln is set (filled) with bricks which are then fired and cooled before being drawn (removed from kiln) and dispatched.
