Is this water lying in the furrows of an old field system?

Hi shunter, it is - pity we don't know where though!

Looks like poorly drained (low-lying?) land which has been provided with relatively modern sub-surface field drains, not mediaeval "Ridge & Furrow" landscape. Possibly the Fens, before all the hedgerows were grubbed out, but the tight bends in the natural drainage may indicate somewhere else. Possibly Cheshire or South Lancashire - Chat Moss, perhaps? Note how the drainage goes in different directions in adjacent fields.
