The former Lynton Station, terminus of the narrow gauge Lynton & Barnstaple Railway (opened 1898, closed 1935). Just look how far (and high up) it was from the town it claimed to serve! Hardly surprising that once reliable motor transport started to appear, the locals quickly transferred to that. The railway is now in the course of resurrection as a tourist attraction, but will probably never use the old Lynton Station again - another location closer to the town would be a preferred option. http://www.lynton-rail.co.uk/ |
