Cummersdale Dye Works, first started in 1782, by Ferguson's John, Richard & joseph. They continued business until the 1850's when Lowthian & Parker rented the works. They were succeeded by James Mungall & son, until about 1901,about tis date Stead McAlpin purchased the works and leased it to some local businessmen. In 1913, they ceased business and the property reverted back to Stead McAlpin who used it for storage. The building were demolished in the 1970's.
