At nationalisation in January 1948 there were almost 50 Stanier 2-8-0s based at Toton shed. |

At this time most of the ex LMS Beyer-Garratt locomotives were shedded at Toton for the Toton to Brent coal trains. They were being replaced with the Stanier 2-8-0 locos and later with the BR 2-10-0 s. |
