WW2 Newmans became a major employer in Yate and a rival to Parnalls making shell cases and super-strong chains. With both factories mass-producing war material, Yate became a target during the Bristol Blitz! In February and again in March 1941, a German plane bombed Parnalls and 53 workers died.

A really great spot Andrew Bennett! I was looking all around the Potteries when it was somewhere completely different. I had thought I had seen a canal in one of the pictures but I'm glad I hadn't annotated it and been wrong. I did get a railway junction in one of the photos but had no idea that it was Yate. Well done again. I must go and have a look sometime soon!

Thank you Andrew! You may be interested to know that the original Aerofilms Ltd Register entry reads "Cogent Advertising Service", which wasn't much use to us... We'll update the catalogue and post the new data here in due course.
