The building in the lower half of this photo is 'The Spanish Barn', so named after it was used to house 397 prisoners of war from the Spanish Armada for two weeks in 1588. Prior to the prisoners being held there it was called 'The Tithe Barn' and was built in the early thirteenth century along with the Abbey - in the centre of the photo. |
