Grade 2* Listed Building- English Heritage Building ID: 82656



Small country house. C15, early C18, c1800, early C19 and 1925. The remnants of the moat have been altered and landscaped to such an extent that the original form is not now discernible



Probably the remains of an early C18 H-plan house, with additional bay to left. Four bay balustraded single storey addition of c1925 in the centre. The whole facade has at some time been heightened.



Gate house in north east corner of C15 origins but refaced in stone in early C19, possibly in 1824 or 1829 (dates on hopper heads).



Within the gardens, grade 2 listed contents (English Heritage Building ID: 82657) are: Garden wall with urns, terracing, ha-ha wall, bridge, summer

house (1933), iron railings and gates. The ironwork was collected from a number of locations and is not original to this site.



The stable block is listed Grade 2 - English Heritage Building ID: 82658- Stable block. Late C19 and 1925. Red brick with sandstone dressings. Plain tile roofs, and four brick stacks. Four sides around a courtyard. Main range on west side, late C19, remodelled in 1925 in Tudor Style.





Nearby is a scheduled ancient monument- Barton Blount Medieval Settlement Remains, Including a Chapel, Decoy Pond and Part of the Open Field System, 340m North of Barton Hall. The earthwork remains of the abandoned areas of Barton Blount medieval settlement and the standing remains of St Chad's Church are particularly well preserved and retain significant archaeological remains. The village was occupied from the tenth to the 15th century. Following excavation in the 1960s and 1970s ad large part of the village to the North and North East was ploughed. Sunken tracks mark old roadways.



A square Victorian water tower has been converted into a home.



150m South West of the hall is the site of a decoy pond originally 60m x 100m with an island.



St Chad's Church (listed Grade 2 - English Heritage Building ID: 82655) was damaged during the civil war (1646) and by the early 18th century was in a dilapidated condition. Rebuilt 1714 and again in 1845. It is 30m North of the Hall. Private chapel, formerly parish church. Also a scheduled Ancient Monument.
