Agars Plough playing fields. I remember going to a large fair/circus/carnival on this site as a child. One of the acts was a couple doing stunts on top of a very tall and slim lattice mast supported by several tethering ropes/wires. It looked highly dangerous! YouTube has a short film:

Romney Island - difficult to make out with the flooding. The river ran down the northwest side of the Island and the Lock Cut ran to the south. I used to go swimming in the lock cut in the 50s and it was also an excellent place for fishing. I remember fishing on the north bank of the Thames one year just by the east end of Romney Island when there was a huge splash; my Uncle had fallen in and his rod got caught in some tree roots. Fortunately a couple of swimmers helped out by diving down and recovering his rod. |

Black Potts - according to the Ordnance Survey Maps - small house on an Island. The Google Earth photo shows it is still there. Also just to the north west is the boatyard with the slipways down to the Thames. |

Boat House - probably owned by Eton College. The cross country course at Slough Grammar School used to go past this point. There was a gently sloping slipway down to the river. I remember during one race in the winter, the Thames had flooded and left a layer of slimy mud on the slipway and one poor chap lost his footing and slid gently into the Thames which was still in flood and fast flowing. Nobody around me stopped to help, after all we were in a race and that was one person less to beat. I am still utterly ashamed that we did not help him; what appalling boys we were. |
