| GEC radio works Ford Street. My father worked there during WW2. He arrived at work on the morning after the November 1940 blitz to find part of the roof missing and the floor at one end raised upwards. The blast had travelled along a culvert (River Sherbourne?). It may have been caused by the bomb that demolished the Coventry Baths. He was given salvage work and after putting tarpaulins over the roof he was back working at his machine a few days later, once the electricity was restored. A 1949 view shows the part nearest to the Baths has been rebuilt. |
