So this is right below the present Erskine Bridge, then...and where the sheds are on the left of the slipway, is the present Council Recycling Centre now! :) I visit it frequently! |

I used to play in the ruins of the buildings ( the Aurora Factory ) that are on the left of the slipway in the 1970's ( now a recycling centre ). |

Napier and Miller built 120 ships, many of them in this yard, where the company moved to in 1906. The yard closed in 1930, in the Great Depression, and the site was cleared in 1931. I'm not able to identify the vessels under construction but three previously launched in 1927 were torpedoed and sunk in World War II. These were the SS Kensington Court, launched 7 April 1927 and sunk by U32 on 18 September 1939 between Fastnet and Bishop Rock with a cargo of grain for Liverpool; SS Baron Kinnaird, launched 15 June 1927 and sunk on 12 March 1943 and SS Bradovey, launched on 29 September 1927 and torpedoed and sunk when in the hands of Turkish owners on 30 March 1944 |
