Now (2014) Neville Road. Old dyke, clearly visible on old OS plans, known as Hook Dyke. Potentially Roman in origin (road and/or aqueduct). |

Lower Rouse (I'm told pronounced "Rooze") Copse - ancient woodland with vestiges remaining 2014 - shape clear on OS maps. Field subject to post war woodland clearance - Govt incentive scheme? - but believed scarcely cultivated (once?) since as tendency to be wet (ditched on east, south and west side with chalk stream. Ditto woodland field behind and to the right - Upper Rouse Copse. Fabulous place for nature (including flowers and bats) but area subject to draft Local Plan proposal for "Strategic Development Location" for 1600 homes plus commercial and community uses (likely to be reviewed by a Pplanning Inspector summer 2014). |
