I used to swim twice a day at Wealdstone Swimming Pool in the late 1950s/early 1960s - Training. Mr Seagrove was in Charge of the pool and he lived in Christchurch Avenue. The pool was cold but once you got in it was OK.
I attach a photo taken about 1960 I think.

In the 1960's there was a Fish & Chip shop here. Us boys would get a bag of chips to eat on the way back to Whitefriars after a school swimming lesson. |

I recall school swimming lessons at this unheated pool (water temp 52f = 11c)in the 1950's. Although there were several pools nearer we had to use one located, like the school,in the borough of Harrow. |

When the Harrow Leisure Centre was built in the mid 70s, the pool was retained and incorporated into the complex, but over the years fell into disuse and dilapidation. It was finally removed in about 2007 and the site redeveloped. Another Lido disappeared. |
