My name was Susan Hardman and I went to Queen Street School in the early sixties. My first teacher was Miss White and I remember Mr Callaghan and Headteacher Miss Gall. I can also remember not being allowed to have a nap in the infant class at nap time on the fold-up beds with the heavy army blankets (must have been my mum's instructions). I was also TV monitor and used to wheel it into the appropriate classroom and set it up when it was required - I used to feel so grown up doing that

My Mum and Dad bought the only house that faced onto Queen Street and remember Waddacors Lorries and Kaye Goodfellows and the Glassworks. The neighbours from nearby streets had bonfires on the croft (the piece of land where a building had been knocked down) across from our house and I remember trestle tables and jacket potatoes; meat and potato pies and 'tata hash' and red cabbage.
