Former RFC Monk Moor (Observers’ School of Reconnaissance & Aerial Photography (Midland Area))with attached airfield on what is now the site of the Monkmoor Campus. There were gates on Monkmoor Road which were closed to let planes taxi across. Not sure when flying stopped. Later RAF Monkmoor (as shown here), a repair and reclamation station in WWII, which continued until 1947 when the site appears to have closed. Now retail and small industrial units, but the main hangars survive. |
