' This lodge was the gatehouse for Bycliffes, a large house set back from the Thames with extensive grounds running south to the base of the Overcliffe. It was owned by William Fletcher. The house and grounds were acquired by the Imperial Paper Mills Ltd, incorporated in 1910 with its address Bycliffs (sic) Gravesend.
