Foghorns, a pair of Rayleigh trumpets. A foghorn was installed when the lighthouse opened in 1871, this was replaced in 1873 by twin horns, angled to give warning both up and down the coast. These were replaced by the horns in the photo' during the 1920s, and were in turn replaced by diaphone foghorns in 1953. '
