All residents living in the bottom half of Beechwood Road (towards Hornby B'vard) on both sides, had to find new homes due to these houses being beyond repair, my family lived in number 57 until may 1971, houses demolished early 1970's & replaced with a parking area & playing area (with a long slide)

Pawn shop on the corner of Violet Rd was destroyed in the May blitz of 1941, local folk law says the flames guided the German bombers to the matchworks on the next block.

When I was growing up in the 1980s in Hornby Boulevard, this was called the Black Bridge on account of the black bricks that were used to make it. In the early 1990s, the road underneath it was bollarded to prevent access to cars and reduce throughput traffic. This was done after a small child, Colin Lee, died tragically after being hit by car. The community of Hornby Boulevard campaigned heavily for speed bumps, but in the end the bollards were put up. Bollards were also put up at the other end of the "Bully" (outside the picture to the right) to reduce car traffic from Knowsley Road.

To the kids of Hornby Boulevard at least, this steep area that gave access to the old Freight Railway line was called the Black Hill

In the 1980s there was a Royal Mail building here - perhaps a sorting office. It was non-operation in the late 1980s/early 1990s and was demolished to make housing and a park that runs between Longfield and Violet.

In the 1980s this was a rough green area opposite Hornby Boulevard between the Blinds Factory and the Boxing Club. It was called the "macca". To access it from Hornby Boulevard you had to jump up a small 1 metre approx. wall.

The terraced housing of Longfield Rd and Beechwood where they meet Hornby Boulevard were not there in the 80s. In the 80s it was a small green field and play area. In the 90s, an elderly care home was build here.

In the 80s, this building was used as a boxing club. It was demolished in the 90s and new homes were built

I went to this boxing club circa 1974. I have a picture of my grandafather, Jack Crew, who was a founder of the club after the 1st world war. He worked on Linacre road station during WW2.
