Speedway track built here post WW2, but only ran 1948 & part of 1949. The out-of-town location was thought to be a factor in the track losing money and the promoters hoped to transfer operations to the prewar Hull City ground at Anlaby Road, no longer used for first team fixtures. The City directors would not agree and the track licence was transferred to Swindon, which has lasted rather longer, running every season since. |
