Durham Hill School. Later to become an annexe for both Downham Boy's Secondary (Upstairs) and Downham Girl's School (Downstairs). Now demolished and the site occupied by housing. When I attended Downham Boy's School , on this site in the late fifties there was an active smallholding in the rear . We grew different produce and several animals were kept. The most memorable of these were the resident geese , "Sid and Sally" that doubled for security.

This row of trees formed part of a "Woodland Walk" from Moorside Road , in sections , to Oakridge Road at the Junction of Bromley Road . As a point of interest , when I was a youngster , it was not allowed for children to use the walk unaccompanied by an adult.

Forster Park , Whitefoot Lane . The path inside the park which today runs parallel with Whitefoot Lane was part of the original lane.

The Downham Tavern being constructed. Now demolished. A smaller pub , of the same name, now occupies part of the site and a supermarket (Co-Op)the rest. As previously stated on another image , this pub had the distinction of having the longest bar in the United Kingdom according to the Guinness Book of Records of the time. The hall situated behing the pub , at a later date known as the "Baltabarin" held dances and was quite well known for the boxing functions held there.
