This is Philips Park, Manchester. The road under the railway is Briscoe Lane. The large building top right is the Avro factory. The station in the centre is Park on the line between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge. |

Dear Paul, That’s great; we’ve reviewed your comments and thanks to your help we can update the catalogue. Briscoe Road and Park Station are clear. The revised record will appear here in due course. Katy Whitaker Britain from Above Cataloguer |

Just to confirm that the details given are correct. The top of the picture, crossing from Mather & Platt and Avro's is Ten Acre Lane, above this is now Newton Heath Estate, mainly Council houses. To the bottom right is the old Brick Works, on which is now the defunct Cattle Market built in the early 60's, and to the bottom of this is Philips Park itself. |

This may be Miles Platting, Manchester. The vertical road is possibly Briscoe Lane. Park railway station is in the foreground. (It might say 'Park Station' on the railway bridge) Grimshaw Lane is the road on the left after the railway. Ten Acres Lane is the side to side road that winds under the railway on the right. If this is correct, the factory on the right I think belonged to the Co-operative Society. The factory on the left is the now demolished, but historically significant Mather and Platt engineering works. The branch line which crossed Grimshaw Lane by level crossing (out of oicture to left), to serve the M&P works, can just be defined, between the coal trucks near Grimshaw Lane and the signal box to the left of the railway bridge. http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=phillips+park+manchester+history&hl=en&ll=53.493063,-2.192073&spn=0.007251,0.013797&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&hq=phillips+park+manchester+history&hnear=Droylsden,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=16 |
