Although it's postion was always thought to be odd, many local residents of the time thought it to be a rectangular type Pillbox built to form a network of WW2 defences to resist the German army advancing from the south should an invasion ever happen. |

Former site owners included the world famous Crittall Windows (from which the name of the roundabout is derived) who become established there in the late 1920's followed later by The Rank Organisation which made electronic components (mostly Cathode Ray Tubes) here until sometime in the 1980's. Dees, a Ford Motor Dealership, was located another hundred yards or so further north from this site on what was the old A20 (which is now the south bound slip road off the newer A20). DFS now occupy the former Dee's site. |

View now. Old A20 is now the A223, and the new A20, goes over and overpass over and spurs off at "7 O'clock" from the roundabout. Picture is view from in front of Kemnal Tech |
