Looks like a 2-6-4 tank engine, a Class W. If so they were constructed with side tanks taken off the ill fated "River" class locos.

I think this a railwayman's hut, there do not appear to be any embrasures.

The cranes on the jetty could unload from two colliers at a rate of up to 480 tons per hour; coal was shipped from Cardiff, Newport, the Tyne, Sunderland, etc. It was transferred to the storage area or directly to the stations boilers by a conveyor belt system

Colliers awaiting a berth at the pier tied up at mooring buoys on the opposite (north) bank of the river.

The colliers had retractable funnels allowing passage under Thames bridges at high tides.
