The North Tyneside Loop was an suburban line, employing third rail electrification from 1904. This LNER carriage appears to be non-corridor, suburban stock, with what look like hefty bogie structures, but in fact are probably the third rail pick ups. So this could be a power car possibly with a driver's compartment on the right. Maurice may know .. |

Sorry it has taken so long for me to pick this up. The vehicle appears to be a brake third. I can not see any third rail collection shoes on the bogies or any drivers cab window next to the end (right hand). I suspect it is a steam hauled coach rather than part of an electric set. I am not too familiar with the operation of the Tyneside electric services at this time, but most electric trains are formed into sets with electrical connections that make splitting them a depot job rather than one for a siding like this. |
